HOW SPEECH COACHING CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS
Many of us are asked to speak publicly in a variety of situations as part of our jobs, our volunteer work or simply because we find ourselves possessing information or experience other people want to know more about. Whether it be in a sales presentation, at a corporate event or in a board room, the truth is, our success in business is often directly tied to our ability to inform, enlighten and motivate an audience.
What is also true is that a person who makes a poised, well-constructed, informative, engaging presentation has just elevated their professional status and credibility in a way that few other acts can achieve. At the Gabbett Group, we want you to succeed every time you stand up to speak. One of the most effective ways we help you do that is through speech coaching.

HOW SPEECH COACHING WORKS
Speech coaching is a one-on-one process in which we assess and address your needs by working through a specific speech from content to visual aids to mastering the presentation itself.
The content piece of the coaching process includes:
- learning about your audience
- discerning your three key points
- honing your message
- organizing your material
- inserting stories and examples
- crafting an introduction that pulls the audience in
- crafting a conclusion that pulls everything together and calls them to action
The visual aids piece of the coaching process includes:
- PowerPoint surgery – so they enhance, not dominate, your speech
- Prop work (if and how to use them appropriately)
- Note formatting – to keep you on track but away from reading
The presentation piece of the coaching process includes:
- Voice
- Posture
- Body language
- Eye contact
- Movement
- Tone
- Emphasis
- Timing
- Cadence
- Story telling techniques
- Audience participation techniques
The coaching process is done mostly in person, but also includes work on the phone and through email. An initial assessment is done in person. Much of the audience research and content crafting can be done on the phone and by email. The presentation coaching is done in person. We will literally block out your delivery point by point, story by story. We will craft when and where you will move, look and gesture as you speak. We will have at least one full “dress rehearsal” where you will deliver your speech to the coach and receive feedback that will enable you to make those last critical enhancements that take you from good to great.
THE RESULTS YOU CAN EXPECT
When we have completed our work together, you will have:
- a thorough understanding of your audience’s needs
-
an introduction that connects you to them and their concerns
-
a speech that is written, paced and formatted successfully
-
engaging stories that illustrate your points
-
techniques that continue to pull your audience into your message
-
visual aids than enhance your speech but don’t dominate it
-
a catch phrase that ensures your audience retains your key message
-
a closing that brings all your points together and calls them to action
BENEFITS GOING FORWARD
The benefits of this form of speech coaching extend well beyond the specific speech you work on and include:
- A significant improvement in the form and substance of the specific speech we work on
-
Several “tricks of the trade” that set you apart from 90% of the other presenters
-
Techniques you can apply to every other speech you write and deliver
-
A level of confidence that in itself will enhance every other speech you give
HOW TO GET STARTED
We suggest an initial assessment meeting to determine your goals, your typical speaking situations and the specific aspects of public speaking you want to work on. This is typically a 60 to 90-minute meeting and results in a written assessment of your needs and a proposal on how to proceed.
